Skunks are found throughout the entire Miami Valley. Skunks can be very adaptable to any habitat it encounters they can thrive in suburban and urban areas. Skunks typically have large litters of offspring averaging between 6-10. Skunk signs are very easily detected by their very terrible smell, Skunks have two glands near their anus and will only spray if their feeling threatened. Signs of digging around your lawn, skunks like to turn over grass in search for grubs to eat. and you will also see small dark feces scattered around your lawn. And obviously seeing them right before dark coming out to search for food. Skunks are a huge nuisance when they decide to invade your property, but they can carry and transmit many diseases like distemper and the rabies virus.

Reasons why skunks are making their way into residential areas is to search for food and a safe place to create a den for breeding purposes. Skunk will also do a lot of damage to lawns, gardens, and even golf courses by digging up and turning over the sod in search for grubs to eat. We have also seen where skunks have crawled under slabs of homes and can sometimes cause structure damage to your house, barn, garage, and shed.

Where Do Skunks Make Their Dens?

Skunks prefer woods or areas near woods including, fields and pastures. they are nocturnal and will take advantage of any dens/burrows that have been abandoned by other animals in nature. here's a list of places we have found skunk around homes in the Miami valley.
