Proudly serving Preble, Darke, Montgomery, & Miami Counties

Squirrels are in fact listed in the rodent family. and we receive lots of calls anytime of year for squirrels entering into homes. most of these calls we typically receive is the grey ground squirrel, obviously grey ground squirrels are grey in color and can be 16 inches long including the tail they can weight 1-2 lbs, but when running in your attic space they sound a lot bigger then that. Ground Squirrels stay active all year long and always continuing to search for food. squirrels can be found generally near or around walnut trees, Oak trees, or any other tree that produces nuts. We tend to find a lot of stored walnuts and acorns and even bird seed on almost about every rodent or squirrels attic inspection. squirrels usually live in trees that will allow them to travel among the top layer of leaves and branches, as they rarely run on ground. Most squirrels build their nests out of leaves and branches or use tree cavities for shelter. squirrels have learned to adapt in cities, towns, suburbs, by living in your homes soffits, attics, walls, eaves, garages, barns, and sheds. grey squirrels have 2 litters a year, one in the spring and another in the fall and their gestation period will only last about 5-8 weeks. baby squirrels are pink and hairless when their born. around the Miami Valley squirrels have an average of 3 babies and they stay in the nests for 3 months usually.

Common Squirrel Entry Points

Squirrels are very good climbers. Squirrels can gain access onto your roof by climbing onto trees and following the branch lines out on to the roof. We have also seen squirrels walk right up the side of a brick home and jump onto to the roof that way. Squirrels will then access in to your homes attic through many different avenues like:

  • Roof Vents
  • Ridge Vents
  • Soffits
  • Gable Ends
  • Chimney Flues
  • Dryer Lint Caps
